National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme Bouldering

NICAS Bouldering is an exciting UK-wide coaching pathway for young climbers aged 7–16 who are ready to push their skills further. Separate from Kids Club, our Level 1–3 sessions are designed for children who want focused coaching, clear goals and real progression—not just a social climb. Each 1.5-hour session builds confidence, technique, movement, problem-solving and safety awareness through warm-ups, coaching, core work, stretching and personal progress through the NICAS syllabus. Sessions are friendly and supportive, and best suited to young climbers who are keen to listen, learn, train and improve week by week. A one-off £9 registration fee covers logbooks and certificates, awarded as each level is completed.

The Boring Bit

How does booking work?

  • Sessions are usually block-booked in line with Derbyshire term dates.
  • Current members get first refusal on the next block.
  • Any remaining spaces are then opened to new members.

Do I need to stay during the session?

  • Parents or guardians of children aged 11 and under must stay in the building during Kids Club or NICAS Bouldering.
  • Where possible, we ask all parents to stay on site in case we need to speak to you about an injury, behaviour concern or anything else during the session.
  • Children must be dropped off and collected face to face from the warm room opposite reception.
  • This helps instructors share any important information and supports safeguarding.

Cancellation policy?

  • Wild Climbers, Kids Club and NICAS bookings are non-refundable and non-transferable unless at least 7 days’ notice is given.
  • If your child cannot attend because of a climbing-related injury, we may refund any future sessions at the managers discretion.

When can I book the next block?

  • Current Kids Club members can book from 5 weeks before the next block starts.
  • Bookings can be made in person at reception or over the phone.
  • Payment is required at the time of booking to secure your child’s place.
  • Any remaining spaces open to new members 2 weeks before the block starts.

Can my child climb before / after the session?

  • Yes, children can climb before or after their session if they are supervised by an adult registered with us as a Competent Boulderer.
  • The supervising adult must sign the child in on the novice supervision form at reception.
  • Children must stay with their supervising adult whenever they are on the matting outside of session times.
  • If you are registered as a Novice Boulderer, you’ll need to complete a bouldering induction before supervising your child.
  • A Competent Boulderer can supervise a maximum of 2 novices or juniors.
  • Click here to find out more about our Summer Family Induction sessions or call 01332 265864 to book a private induction at a time that suits you.
