So you’ve conquered the bouldering wall, mastered top-rope climbing and you’re ready for the next

challenge? Well here it is:

Lead Climbing (the kind with no rope at the top!)

Lead climbing is when you clip your rope into climbing protection (usually quick-draws) as you progress up your chosen route.

Our Indoor Learn to Lead course will give you all the skills you need to safely lead-climb indoors including how and when to clip, how to lead-belay, and how to catch a lead-fall.

This course will not enable you to lead climb outdoors but it will provide you with a solid basis from which you can progress to outdoor climbing.

Course content.

  • Equipment required, and taking care of it.
  • Clipping quickdraws
  • Leading a route
  • Leading tactics
  • How to fall safely
  • Belaying a lead climber
  • Catching a falling lead climber.

Experience required.

Before booking onto this course, you will need to be 18 years old or over and be able to do the following;

  • Put a harness on
  • Attach the rope to your harness with a suitable climbing knot
  • Belay and lower a climber on a top-rope
  • Confidently climb f5 on a top-rope

You would preferably have your own harness and belay device, but these can be provided if required.
